Why did I pursue the Unpopular Opinions Essay Contest? Because everyone has something to say and yearns to be heard ~ Kelsie Tillage. However, not everyone will speak up due to the current cancel culture. Whether fear of persecution or a desire to fit in, many of these unpopular opinions fester inside us. In a secure environment, I wanted to create a safe place where people could share their views, no matter how unpopular they may be. All the contestants were instructed not to write hate speech to those of opposing views and scored anonymously to create a space where their backgrounds and perspectives would not impact their score. I have always admired people's opinions and wanted to know how their lives and experiences shaped them. I hope when you finish reading this anthology, you leave with a feeling of acceptance. Enjoy.
